These currants are from our black currant patch.
Black Currants have an incredibly layered flavor profile, tart and juicy but also very earthy and dusky. They're also completely gorgeous; a bucket of them looks like a collection of deep purple galaxies with their faint white speckles.
Black currants lend themselves amazingly to savory dishes -- think lamb. They are also great cooked into compotes or toppings for waffles, pancakes, and oatmeal. They have a naturally high level of pectin, which makes them great additions to homemade jams and jellies. Juice them, throw them in a smoothie, add them to a berry crumble for a unique twist. They're also lovely fresh, by themselves. For the curious and creative -- we look forward to seeing your creations.
