Spring Plant Sale FAQ
Looking to grow healthy, delicious food for your family this summer? Want to add fruit or native plants to your landscaping? Want to buy plants that will grow and thrive in our Minnesota climate? You've come to the right place!
What types of plants do you sell?
We sell berry plants, fruit trees, vegetable, herb, and flower seedlings, dahlia tubers, seed potatoes, and organic gardening supplies. You can click here for our 20025 Plant Sale Catalog which lists all the plants we offer, has descriptions and includes prices.
What makes your plant sale unique?
Our plant sale is unique because we offer plants that have outstanding flavor and do well in our soils and climates. The varieties of berry plants that we offer we have grown successfully on our farm. The native plants are grown by a local farm, Sogn Valley farm near Cannon Falls, in their on-farm greenhouse with seeds collected from remnant prairie and oak savanna on their farm. The garden starts (vegetables, herbs, and flowers) are grown by two local vegetable farms we partner with, Waxwing Farm and Twin Organics. They start the plants in their on-farm greenhouses and grow them using all organic practices. We have chosen varieties that Waxwing and Twin have found do well in our area and taste great. Plants you buy at big box stores and even many local nurseries are grown in warm, southern states and shipped to Minnesota in the spring. They aren't adapted to our climate and are generic varieties that often lack flavor.
What new plants are you offering this year?
- Dahlia tubers!
- Expanded selection of apple trees
- Expanded selection of pear trees
- Plum Trees!
- Rhubarb!
- Vegetables: lunchbox peppers, new tomato varieties, green beans, summer savory (herb)
- Mixed herb and strawberry bowls
Are your plants organic?
Some are certified organic such as the seed potatoes, native plants, and the herbs we get from Twin Organics. Some are grown using organic practices but not technically certified such as the dahlia tubers and the vegetable, herb and flower starts that we get from Waxwing Farm. All the plants are non-gmo and not treated with any chemicals.
Do you ship plants?
Sorry, but no we don't. All plants ordered through our website are for pickup at the farm.
What are your Pickup Dates this year?
Plants will be available for pickup at the farm starting on Friday, May 9th and any of the days we are open through the end of May. We are planning to be open for pickup and in-store shopping the dates below, typically 9:00am to 3:00pm. I'm interested in your plants, but don't want to pre-order through your website. Can I come and shop for plants at your farm when comes spring comes?
Yes, absolutely! We are open for in-store shopping the dates and times listed above for plant pickup. We can't guarantee that all of the plants you see on our website will be available for in-store shopping because some plants do sell out in advance.

When you buy plants from us, you aren't just buying plants. You are tapping into our growing experience as successful organic farmers in Minnesota for over 10 years and the other local farmers we work with. At our farm we have been growing all of these berry plants for many ears. If we don't know the answer to a question about a native plant or vegetable plant, we'll ask the local farmers that we get the plants from.
How about during the growing season. Can I contact you if I have a question about a disease or problem I'm having with one of my plants?
Yes, when you buy plants from us we are your resource for as long as you have those plants. We often get texts (507-301-7183) or emails (info@littlehillberryfarm.com) from customers with pictures of their plant asking if we can help diagnose what the problem is. We're happy and available to help!
