We're excited to bring plum trees back for a 2nd year at our plant sale. There was a lot of excitement around them last year. One thing that is really nice about the plum varieties we have is that they are self-fruitful, so you can buy just one tree and not need a second tree for pollination.
We are offering bare root dormant plum trees. Bare root trees need to be planted within a day or two of when you pick them up from us so they don't dry out. The advantages to bare root trees are that they don't experience transplant shock when they are planted, they are easier to transport, and we can offer them at a lower price than potted trees. The trees are two years old. They are 5 to 7 feet tall with multiple branches.
The plum trees are semi-dwarf and will grow to 8 to 12 feet tall. These will need to be staked (supported) for the first two years.
These trees will be available starting Friday, May 8th for pickup at the farm. We are sorry but we are unable to ship trees. We are offering the following variety of plums this year.
Mount Royal: Is a blue, European plum variety and is considered the best tasting blue plum cultivar in Wisconsin and Minnesota. Good eaten off tree and excellent for dessert, jam and preserves. Is self-fruitful, so doesn't need a second variety for pollination. Ripens Mid to Late August.
Stanley: Is a European plum variety with dark blue skin and yellow flesh. The fruit is tender and sweet, great for eating fresh or for baking. Is self-fruitful, so doesn't need a second variety for pollination. Ripens early September.
