Aronia berries are the superfood of superfoods. They have the HIGHEST levels of antioxidants of any fruit or vegetable. Yep, way more than even blueberries. Aronia berries have a tart and astringent taste. If you eat them straight the astringency will make your mouth pucker. They pair well with a natural sweetener like honey or maple syrup. My favorite way to eat them is in smoothies.
Aronia plants are native to Minnesota and grow very well here. (They are also known as black chokeberry.) They will grow to be 4 to 6 feet tall. After watering and fertilizing the first year, aronia can be a low maintenance landscape plant needing minimal water and care. The berries are ready in late August/early September.
These plants will be available starting May 11th at the farm.
